CSS and JavaScript combine warning is typically seen when testing your site against services like Pingdom, GTmetrix, or Google PageSpeed, and this is widespread concern for many WordPress website owners.

Combining vendor assets seeks to reduce the number of HTTP requests made by a browser during page refresh by replacing multiple distinct CSS and JavaScript files with a single CSS/JavaScript file, containing the contents of all of them.

This is particularly important in old browsers, that were limited to two connections per domain. In addition to reduced overhead for HTTP headers and communications warm-up, this approach works better with TCP/IP slow-start, increasing the effective payload bit-rate through the browser’s network connection.

As an example, if your page loads 5 vendor CSS files and 5 vendor JavaScript files, combining these static resources into a single separate file each, would result in 8 fewer requests in the end.

The good news is that CONJ PowerPack comes with a built-in option which enables you to simply concatenate theme’s vendor CSS and JavaScript resources to help speed up your website.

By default, CONJ theme won’t combine vendor files and you may enable these features by following the steps below:

merge-theme’s-vendor-assets
Combine CONJ’s third-party vendor assets

  2. From the sidebar on the left, select the Optimization tab.
  3. Locate the Merge vendor StyleSheet checkbox-field and check the box to activate this feature.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Merge vendor JavaScript

Likewise, enabling this option takes all third-party theme dependency scripts and concatenates them into a single JavaScript file.

  1. Log into your WordPress website and navigate to CONJ PowerPack.
  2. From the sidebar on the left, select the Optimization tab.
  3. Locate the Merge vendor JavaScript checkbox-field and check the box to activate this feature.
  4. Click Save Changes.
